Rediscovered footage of Shrewsbury in 1971.

Rediscovered footage of Shrewsbury in 1971 featuring the demolition of the old Shirehall, the renovation of Bear Steps and other general views of the town.

Below are some old image of the Shirehall before it was demolished

Built in 1837 by Sir Robert Smirke and had two extensions in the early 20th Century.

Princess House now sits on the site.

Thanks to Anne Whitaker who’s recently dug out the footage and contacted me about it. It was her father’s who’d been given a camera for his 21st birthday. He loved filming things around the town.
